The Village of Pewaukee was incorporated out of the town before it incorporated as a city.The name of the village comes from "Pee-wauk-ee-wee-nick," meaning either "the dusty water" ["Approach of the White Man." United States Census Bureau , the village has a total area of 4.4square mile s (11.4km² ), of which, 4.1 square miles (10.6 km²) of it is land and 0.3 square miles (0.8 km²) of it (6.59%) is water.Demographics

census GR|2 of 2000, there were 8,170 people, 3,635 households, and 2,079 families residing in the village. Thepopulation density was 1,986.2 people per square mile (767.5/km²). There were 3,761 housing units at an average density of 914.3/sq mi (353.3/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 96.19% White, 0.58% Black or African American, 0.22% Native American, 1.80% Asian, 0.35% from other races, and 0.86% from two or more races. 1.21% of the population wereHispanic orLatino of any race.There were 3,635 households out of which 28.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.7% were married couples living together, 7.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 42.8% were non-families. 35.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.19 and the average family size was 2.89.
In the village the population was spread out with 22.2% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 37.3% from 25 to 44, 21.3% from 45 to 64, and 12.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 90.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.6 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $53,874, and the median income for a family was $66,940. Males had a median income of $43,284 versus $31,477 for females. The

Pewaukee School District serves both the village and the city of Pewaukee, Wisconsin.The district includes four separate buildings all contained in a single-campus environment. The school buildings serve early childhood through 3rd grades, 4th through 6th, 7th and 8th, and 9th through 12th grades.
WCTC's main campus is located in the village of Pewaukee, Wisconsin. The technical college is part of the 16 tech colleges that make up the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS). These two-year tech colleges provide the surrounding communities with the critical, essential technical occupations that the entire state relies upon. WCTC, as all the other tech colleges, responds to the needs of its communities by helping one person at a time and by bringing people and jobs together. WCTC has a small but modern campus in Pewaukee within the heart of the lake country area. While Pewaukee is the main campus for WCTC it also has other location sites in Menomonee Falls and Waukesha as well as about 15 center schools in the Waukesha County area.
