Music

The [http://www.popeband.org/ Pope Band] consists of marching, symphonic, and chamber groups which perform regularly throughout the year. The marching band in particular has performed at various regional and national competitions, winning awards in several categories including 13th place at the Bands of America Grand National Championship in 2001. Their most recent trip was to the 65th annual Pearl Harbor parade in Hawaii. They are also doing the music for the first ever live production of the High School Musical at the historic Fox Theater in Atlanta, GA. The Pope Band is headed by Mr. Gary Gribble. Gribble is known for his outstanding career, starting the band program in 1987 and staying with it ever since. It is also assisted by Josh Rudolph, who attended the school in the early days and returned to leave his own mark.

Pope's [http://www.popechorus.com/ Choral Department] supports six distinct choirs, consisting of intermediate and advanced men's, women's, and mixed ensembles. They regularly sing in locations around Atlanta. In 2001, the Pope Chorus performed at Carnegie Hall.

The [http://www.popeorchestra.com/ Pope Orchestra] consists of intermediate and advanced ensembles led by Mr. Eric Gray. Members are encouraged to participate in local community ensembles and state-wide competitions. Intermediate level orchestras are charged with the responsibility to look at their musical technique with the highest level of musicianship which will see them into more challenging level orchestras. The Pope High School Advanced Orchestra performs on the highest level music in both string ensembles and full orchestra ensembles. This ensemble works to perfect the techniques necessary to create emotional and unforgettable performances. Great respect for the music is key in working all levels. With ensembles ranging from fifteen members to forty each group produces the necessary technique to achieve extraordinary success on stage. Through hard work, strong student leadership, parental support, volunteering in the community, and inspirational character these students will carry on the tradition of excellence at Pope High School.
