St Marys is a railway station on the Western line, Sydney of the CityRail network. It has four tracks, and the tracks are paired by direction down/down/up/up. This means that all trains to the city leave from the same island platform, so if a train happens to travel on the unexpected track, it is merely a matter of walking to the other side of the island platform. All 4 platforms can have trains terminated on and sent back to the origin station. St Marys platforms are accessible by lifts, and is therefore classified as an Easy Access station for wheelchairs.

History

St Marys station opened on 1 May 1862 as South Creek with the construction of the Main Western Linecite web|work=Nswrail.net| title=Main Western railway line|url=http://www.nswrail.net/lines/show.php?name=NSW:main_west| accessdate=27 January| accessyear=2007] . The name was changed to St Marys on 1 August 1885 after the nearby St Mary Magdalene Church. It is the current western extent of quadruplication of the Western Line built as part of the Blue Mountains electrification in the 1950s, although the original proposal was to extend it through to Penrith. St Marys was the junction of the former Ropes Creek branch line, which opened in 1942. This line is now truncated into two storage sidings at the western end of the station.
