It was built in December, 1970, and holds 11,500 people and has an area of 10,133 m² in total.[1] The figure skating and some of the ice hockey games and the closing cerimonies from the 1972 Winter Olympics were held at this arena.[2]

Overview

The arena is used not only as a sports venue, but also for a huge meeting, fair of used cars, and concert.

The stadium has been known as its nickname, "Makomanai Ice Arena", and on April 1, 2007, the nickname was changed to the "Makomanai Sekisui Heim Ice Arena", after Sekisui Heim, a Japanese real estate company, acquired its naming rights.
