Nova Lima is a city in the Minas Gerais state of Brazil, located close to the state's capital, Belo Horizonte. Its 2001 population was estimated at 66,700. The city is home to several mines, including the Morro Velho, Mostardas], and Rio de Peixe mines. A number of minerals are extracted from these and other sites in and around the city, including gold. The city belongs to the mesoregion Metropolitana de Belo Horizonte and to the microregion of Belo Horizonte. The Anglican Church has been in the town of Nova Lima since 1834 when the St John Del Rey Mining Company was founded for the extraction of gold in the region. The company, of English origin, brought around 150 families from Britain and also an Anglican Chaplain. Two new chapels were built in the town - one around 1840 and the other around 1850. The present local church, St. John the Baptist [1] is in communion with the Anglican Episcopal Church in Brazil
