Sarah Bloom Raskin (Born April 1961) is an American attorney and regulator, who is currently a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. Previously, she served as Maryland Commissioner of Financial Regulation.

Early life and education

Raskin holds a J.D. degree from Harvard Law School and a B.A. in economics from Amherst College, where she wrote her undergraduate thesis on monetary policy.[1]

Career

Raskin was nominated to the Federal Reserve Board by President Barack Obama, along with Dr. Janet Yellen, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, to be the board's vice chairman, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology economics professor Peter A. Diamond.[1]

Raskin and Yellen were unanimously confirmed as a Federal Reserve Board governor by the United States Senate on September 30, 2010.[2] On October 4, 2010, both were sworn in by Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke.[3]

Personal life

Raskin is married to Jamie Raskin, a law professor and Democratic Maryland state senator. They have three teenage children.
