Omar Al-Mukhtar University (Arabic: جامعة عمر المختار‎) in Bayda is the second largest university in Libya and established the first Islamic university in Libya. It was founded in 1983 by the religious Kzawip Senussi. In 1951 the return of national institutions to work, Bayda was brought back to full strength for learning the Quran with the assistance of scholars and readers of Al-Azhar. It has grown to be a moderately religious institute to teach Principles of readings, and then to the University of Mohammed bin Ali al-Sanusi in 1960 or aspiring Bayda Islamic University. It began receiving students from all parts of Libya and the world, including Malta, Cyprus, Egypt, Malaysia, Indonesia, Sudan, Chad and others.

The Baksmha procedure room for thousands of students have been cancelled in the conduct of the impact of religious education, devoid causing a shortage of experienced preachers and speakers, and is now known as the University of Omar Al-Mukhtar. However, after the revolution, Fatih University has been cancelled as a beacon to the Islamic Movement of mother-to-Senussi, it’s banned in Libya now, and make them belonging to the Faculty of Agriculture, the University of Garyounis is an independent and established university general in 1984. Follow the General People's Committee for Higher Education in the name of the campus now.

History of the university

To change the course of education, the University of Mohammed bin Ali al-Sanusi Muslim has changed its name to the University of Omar Al-Mukhtar, in the Revolution it was included in the University of Garyounis. During the period from 1975 to 1984, the College Implants affiliated with the University of Benghazi. And bear the name of the university Libyan hero Omar Mukhtar and then became independent in 1984.

In this university there are four sections: Bayda and the headquarters of the University, the dome, Derna and Tobruk. Adopted in most disciplines of the Libyan, especially in recent years after the Libyan government offered scholarships for Libyan students to study in developed countries.

Omar Al-Mukhtar University awarded academic degrees following: - BSc, leave Graduate (Masters) and leave minute (PhD).
