OCI or OCI Company Ltd is a Korean conglomerate based in Seoul. It was founded in 1959 as "Oriental Chemical Industries". It manufactures inorganic chemicals, coal, petrochemicals, and fine chemicals. Its inorganic chemicals products consist of hydrogen peroxide, soda ash, sodium carbonate, peroxyhydrate, fumed silica, and others. Its coal and petrochemicals products include carbon black, toluene, xylene, and benzene, among others. Its fine chemicals include chemical reagents for laboratory experiments and cleansing equipment, carbofuran for plant hopper, and sodium cyanate. The company also produces polyvinyl chloride (PVC) windows for construction industry.[1]
OCI is a major manufacturer of polysilicon, with 42,000 metric tons production capacity at the end of 2011, putting it in first place worldwide, and then expanding to 62,000 metric tons by October 2012.[2] Though there are major expansion programs at many manufacturers, in comparison, annual global solar polysilicon production volume (2010) is between 100,000 and 110,000 tons.[3] This production is aimed at the rapid growth of the solar panel industry.
