History
In the past, there had been attempts to build a residential building at 1 Bloor Street East, including an attempt by Bazis International with marketing by Montana Steele, who were forced to cancel because of the economic downturn.[1] The site was sold to Great Gulf Homes, who relaunched the plans to build a condo there with a new design, reduced height (initially 91 to 80, but then 80 floors to 65), and a new name.[1]
Architecture
The building is designed by Hariri Pontinari Architects, overlooked by David Pontinari.[2]
The undulating curved balconies produce a façade that possesses duel qualities of playfulness and control, and dramatically contrasts the surrounding modernist high-rises to the north. The interior core maintains a more regular form to avoid compromising the suites, and serves as the backdrop from which the curving facade emerges from. The frit glass balconies pinwheel around the building; increasing in size for the preferential corner units, while capitalizing on view and light. The flowing lines of the facade will carry through to the sloped rooftop above, and stretch out into the podium below; marking key entryways into the building.

Features
Number One Bloor features over 27,000 square feet (2,500 m2) of resort-inspired amenities on the sixth and seventh floors designed by Cecconi Simone. On the seventh floor terrace, there is 19,000 square feet (1,800 m2) of outdoor amenity space designed by Janet Rosenberg + Associates, Landscape Architecture/Urban Design.[2]
The six-storey podium will include 100,000 square feet (9,300 m2) of retail space.[1]
