Background

Etymology

Nu ABO is a play on words meaning "New Blood Type": A, B and O are blood types, and if the letters are said in succession, it sounds like "ye-bbi-oh" ("예삐오"). The title is supposed to represent the fact that f(x) is a new group bringing their new talents, implying that they are the "new blood" to the music industry.[original research?]

History

The song was written by Thomas Troelsen, Cutfather, Mynority Jose Aguirre Lopez, and Engelina Larsen. The Korean lyrics were written by Yoo Young-jin. It was co-produced by Thomas Troelsen, Cutfather, and Mynority Jose Aguirre Lopez.[2] It was released May 4, 2010 in South Korea and distributed by label agency, SM Entertainment as well as Avex Asia.

Promotion

The first promotional live performance of the song was made on May 7, 2010, on KBS's Music Bank. The music video was released on May 6, 2010.[3]

Reception

It charted #1 online on Monkey3, Dosirak and Bugs.[citation needed], while it reached #2 on Melon.[4] In the Philippines, it debuted on the #20 spot on the MYX International Top 20 chart and was the group's first single to debut at the said chart.[citation needed]
