Banks studied at Oriel College, Oxford[3] before then studying for ordination at St Stephen's House, Oxford.[4] He was an assistant curate at Christ Church, Newcastle[5] from 1982 to 1987 and priest in charge until 1990. He was Vicar of St Paul's Cullercoats[6] from 1990 until 2000. Latterly he was Vicar of Walsingham until his appointment as the third Bishop of Richborough.[7]
Banks was consecrated as a bishop at Southwark Cathedral on 16 June 2011.[1]
