Night Skies is a 2007 horror film starring A.J. Cook, Jason Connery, George Stults and Ashley Peldon. It revolves around the infamous "Phoenix Lights", one of the largest UFO sightings ever.

Plot

A group of friends embark on a road trip to Las Vegas, NV in a recently restored RV. The driver, Matt, is getting the group lost while attempting to take a shortcut. His fiancée Lily complains that they've been engaged too long and wants to get married; he frustrates her by responding that there's no rush. Soon after, Lily leaves the passenger seat to go throw up in the RV's bathroom (it turns out that she is 3 months pregnant with Matt's child, but can't bring herself to tell him). Matt's friend Joe and his new wife June are goofing around in the RV's living/dining area, and Matt's sister Molly is asleep in the back. Eventually, June notices a strange arc-formation of lights in the sky that appear to be pacing the RV. She points it out to the others, who turn to look and become captivated by it. Matt turns to look as he is driving and almost swerves off the road. Joe and June attempt to record the formation of lights on their digital camera; Matt turns to look again and therefore does not see the road flares that were laid on the road by a stalled motorist. He swerves to avoid the motorist and crashes his RV into a tree.

The rest of the group is shaken up by the event, and Matt, Lily, and his sister Molly get out of the RV to assess the damage and see about the other motorist. The other motorist, Richard, has come over to see about those in the RV; Matt is furious and punches him in the face before he is restrained by his fiancée. Just then, June leans out of the door and says that there's a problem with Joe. It turns out that as the RV left the road, it hit some bumps and caused a set of knives to fall out of one of the upper compartments. One of these knives is now lodged in Joe's shoulder, as he fell on it in the ensuing wreck. The others come in to take a look and Matt is about to make an attempt to pull the knife out of Joe's shoulder when he is stopped by Richard, who tells him not to do that as it could sever one of Joe's major arteries. It turns out that Richard was a soldier in the first Gulf War and has therefore had some basic medical training. He suggests leaving the knife where it is, patching up the wound to stop the bleeding, and then calling for medical help or else trying to find an ER. Matt reacts with belligerence, but the others set to work helping Richard tend to the wound. They have to work with what they've got, so they end up duct taping Joe's arms to his sides and attempting to superglue the wound shut. They then cover him in a blanket and put him on the bed in the back room.

Matt, meanwhile, has gone around to the front of the RV to try and fix it. Lily tries to have a talk with him, which ends in frustration. Meanwhile, Molly has gone off with Richard down to his truck to see if they can get it to start so that they can drive into a town and get some medical help. They are unsuccessful in trying to get the truck to start but Molly gets to know Richard a little bit better. He reveals that he was a former POW who was tortured by the Iraqis in an attempt to get him to give up vital information, and he shows her the scars on his hands and wrists. Eventually, the two of them start to head up to the RV and meet up with Lily, telling her that the truck won't start. Matt is still attempting to make heads or tails out of repairing the RV when he hears a rustling in the leaves behind him. Thinking that perhaps it is Richard (or someone else), Matt takes his flashlight and goes into the woods to find out who it is. Along the way he sees strange shapes and hears rustling; eventually, his flashlight dies. He hears a strange chirping sound.

Lily has left the RV to check on Matt. She finds him on the other side of the RV, seemingly returning from the woods. He startles her and she asks him what he's doing over on the other side instead of at the front, where repairs are needed. He reassures her and they come back around into the RV. Just then, June comes out, panicked about Joe's condition and telling them that his skin has changed color. The others run in to check on him, finding him shivering and his color ashen. On a check by Richard, it turns out that Joe has bled all over the back of his shirt and the bedsheets—the knife must have nicked an artery after all. It becomes all the more urgent to find help. Richard points out some telephone lines that go off down a path into the distance; he and Matt decide to follow them to see if they can find a house with a working phone (since no one's cell phones work). The two of them set out with a gun that Richard had taken from the back of his truck, for safety. Along the way, Richard entertains Matt with a story about his third-grade sweetheart, whom he discovered had become a stripper as an adult. As he is describing the size of her breasts, he realizes that Matt has disappeared. At first he thinks Matt is playing games with him, but then he starts to see strange shapes in the trees and hears chirping sounds. Soon, strange ugly creatures start to emerge all around Richard. In a panic, he shoots at some of them and ends up shooting and killing Matt.

Meanwhile, the others are waiting in the RV for Matt and Richard to return. Lily throws up again, and Molly asks her when she plans on telling Matt that she is pregnant. Lily asks how it is that Molly knows, and Molly replies that even though she seems kind of dumb, she's really not. Just then, they hear a sound off in the distance that sounds like a gunshot. Some minutes later, Richard bursts into the RV in a panic and shuts and locks the door. He pulls the curtains on all the windows shut, saying that he doesn't know what the creatures are that he encountered but that they're coming. The others don't know what he's talking about; he ignores them when they ask about Matt, and they see his gun and realize that they did hear a gunshot. By now, Molly's almost hysterical and Lily and June are upset. Lily peeks out of a window and sees one of the creatures' faces. It frightens her, but also convinces her that Richard's not a lunatic. The radio goes crazy; in an attempt to shut it off, Molly looks out of the windshield and thinks she sees her brother Matt. In a fit of hysteria she runs for the RV door and struggles against the others to unlock it and get to him. She runs outside and is sucked up by a green light.

Lily and Richard shut and lock the RV door and huddle inside. Suddenly they hear pounding on the walls and roof, as if something has climbed up on top of the RV in an attempt to find a way in. The pounding stops, and June manages to whisper to the others her realization that Joe is no longer breathing before she is yanked out of the back window. The RV starts to shake violently and the windows burst inward. Richard and Lily burst out of the door and begin to make a run for it, eventually ending up in an abandoned shack. Richard shuts the door and props a heavy table against it. The weird creatures are soon banging against the door in an effort to get in; the boards on all the shack's windows burst in and the shack is overrun by them. Richard starts shooting but is captured, dropping his gun. Lily picks it up and runs for it, but trips on some barbed wire and drops the gun. She struggles to get loose and grab it, but the wire is caught around her leg tightly. The creatures catch up with her and capture her, too.

Richard regains consciousness naked inside a fleshy pod. He struggles out of it to find himself inside some kind of organic, fleshy interior. He hears faint cries off in the distance and sets off in their direction, working his way through numerous fleshy webs of material. He comes across his gun, which he discovers only has one bullet left in it. He then looks up to see Lily lying face-up in midair, her arms and legs bound to the fleshy walls with some sort of organic weblike substance. Two or three creatures stand over her. One of them reaches up to an appendage which deposits a clear substance on its finger; it smears this substance onto Lily's abdomen, rendering her skin transparent so that her organs are visible. The creature reaches in and takes something, accompanied by Lily's shrieks of pain. Soon after, the creatures leave. Richard steps into the room and walks over to Lily, who looks up at him and realizes that the creatures took her baby. A tortured and broken woman, Richard uses his last bullet on her. He does, and is soon bound by the creatures himself. They look at his organs, and they stick a long, snakelike appendage up his nose, causing it to bleed heavily. The creatures then flip him over and stick something in his spine, at which point he blacks out.

Some time later, an officer is patrolling a rather rustic area and notices a body in the sand nearby. He gets out of his patrol car and checks the pulse of the individual, who appears to be dead. It is Richard, who suddenly comes alive and grabs the officer's arm. The end of the movie states that Richard was found about 100 miles away from where his car originally broke down, and that none of the bodies of the other characters, nor the RV that they were in, was ever found.
