Nigel Simmonds

Nigel Simmonds is Reader in Jurisprudence at the University of Cambridge[1] and Dean of College and Director of Studies in Law at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge.[2]

Dr. Simmonds attended school (one of the first comprehensive schools in Britain) in Cumberland before going up to study law at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge in 1970. He was placed in the First Class in each of the three years of his undergraduate study, coming top of Tripos and gaining a starred First in his Finals. He then studied for the LL.M where he once again attained a First Class. After a Phd and some years of teaching at Manchester University, he returned to Cambridge where he is now University Reader in Jurisprudence. At Corpus, Nigel is the Director of Studies in Law, and Dean of College. Nigel Simmonds specialises in Jurisprudence (the philosophy of law). He has published several books and numerous articles in legal and philosophical journals. Recent books include 'A Debate Over Rights' (Oxford 2000), 'Central Issues in Jurisprudence' (3rd edition, London 2008) and 'Law as a Moral Idea' (2007; paperback 2008).
