The Reserve Bank of New Zealand issued the note because the note will last four times longer than its counterpart, the paper banknote. The Bank also said the notes are non-porous meaning they don't absorb liquids, there fore they are much cleaner. The notes have much better features than the paper notes which also deters counterfeiters.[2]
Design
On the front is The Lord Rutherford of Nelson, who is "The Father of the Atom". He studied the atom to the point were we knew it today. To the left is the Nobel Prize Nelson won in 1908. On the back is Mohua or "Yellowhead" which is found on the South Island. The background is the Eglinton Valley which is in Fiordland National Park, which is on the South Island. [3]
Security Features
The polymer note has a watermark of Elizabeth II on the right side. There is two transparent windows of a fern on the left and one on the right. When held up to the light the window will show a 100 in the center of the window. Above the fern window there is a fern printed on both side when you hold it up to the light the two ferns will match up perfectly. When the not is put under UV Light a yellow patch should appear with the number 100 with the use of fluorescent dyes.[4]
