JetBlue Park Location Fort Myers, Florida Opened Spring 2012 (planned) General Contractor Manhattan Kraft Construction Capacity 11,000 Tenants Boston Red Sox (spring training) JetBlue Park is a baseball park currently under construction in Fort Myers, Florida.[1] It will be primarily used for baseball and will be the spring training home of Boston Red Sox, beginning in 2012. The ballpark will have a capacity of approximately 11,000 spectators.[1] It replaces City of Palms Park.
County officials had talked for months about the possibility of securing another team for City of Palms with the Baltimore Orioles (who had also been in talks with Sarasota about Ed Smith Stadium, however, declined) leading the list of potential new tenants.[2]
The park was named JetBlue Park after JetBlue Airlines[3], which has maintained major operations at Boston's Logan International Airport for over a decade.
Many characteristics of the stadium will be taken from Fenway Park, including a 37-foot (11 m) Green Monster wall in left field, featuring seating on top of and behind the wall.[1] Included in the wall will be a restored version of the manual scoreboard that was housed at Fenway for almost 30 years, beginning in the 1970s.[4] The field dimensions at JetBlue Park will be identical to those at Fenway.[4]
