(1986)"Never Be You" is a 1985 single written by Tom Petty and Benmont Tench and recorded by Rosanne Cash. "Never Be You" was Rosanne Cash's fifth number one on the country chart. The single went to number one for one week and spent a total of 16 weeks on the chart [1]. "Never Be You" was first released in 1983 by Maria McKee and appeared on the "Streets of Fire" film soundtrack album; Cash recorded a version for the film, but her version was not used (Cash's original version was released for the first time on her 2005 compilation "The Very Best of Rosanne Cash").
