History

Narutō Station opened on 1 May 1897 as a station on the Bōsō Railway. On September 1, 1907, the Bōsō Railway was nationalized and became part of the Japanese Government Railways. During an air raid of August 13, 1945 in World War II, shells from an anti-aircraft gun set an ammunition train stopped at the station on fire. The fire spread despite efforts of firemen and Imperial Japanese Army troops from the 3rd Guards Division, and the station building was totally destroyed. A total of 42 people perished in the fire. The JGR was transformed into the Japan National Railways (JNR) after World War II. Freight operations were discontinued on December 1, 1981.
