Mualana Hifzur Rehman Paisa Akhbari has been granted Tamgha-i-Imtiaz (The Order of Excellence) from the Government of Pakistan for his services in the field of archaeology, history and linguistic research.
He donated musical instruments, ancient jewellery, textiles, pottery and armory, relics from the Graeco-Bactrian times as well as well as objects of Greco-Buddhist sculptures, Mughal and Pahari paintings to Lahore Museum in 1964. He was curator of many museums of subcontinent and an expert of the Gurmukhi and Sanskrit languages. He also compilled the first Urdu Encyclopaedia of 11 volumes. He died on December 31, 1970 and Government of Pakistan honoured him with The order of the Excellence for his services. He had three daughters who all died by year 2008
