It is part of Fairfax County Public Schools.
Mountain View is one of three alternative high schools operated by Fairfax County Public Schools and offers programs for students who require a nontraditional educational setting[3]. The school is currently led by interim principal Michael Burch from Chantilly High School.[4].
The school is accredited through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools as a special purpose high school in the Commonwealth of Virginia[3].
Contents
Student Population
The school's student population consists of minors and adults, including students who may be pregnant or parenting, students for whom English is a second language, students who are returning to school after having had their education interrupted by life events, students who wish to accelerate their high school education and students who have been administratively placed. The school is not intended for students with severe disciplinary problems.[3]
History
Mountain View Alternative High School was established in 1995[4]. It occupies a building that was formerly used as Centreville Elementary School.
Demographics
In the 2008-2009 school year, Mountain View Alternative High School's student body was 38.58% Hispanic, 35.58% White (not of Hispanic origin), 11.61% Black (not of Hispanic origin), 8.99% Asian or Pacific Islander and 5.24% other. In this year, student body was 61.05% male and 38.95% female.[3]
