R1 is an expressway (Slovak: rýchlostná cesta) in Slovakia. It starts near Trnava (D1) and ends in Ružomberok (D1) and it goes through or around Nitra, Hronský Beňadik, Žarnovica, Žiar nad Hronom (R2/R3), Zvolen and Banská Bystrica.

From 225 km there are:

  • 167,7 km in operation
  • 8 km under construction
  • app. 50 km planned

The former partial designation of this route was D65.

Currently (as of October 2011), continous section between Trnava and Banská Bystrica is in operation. A linking section to Ružomberok and consequently back to motorway D1 has been planned since 2008, however, only a short bypass of Banská Bystrica is currently under construction, scheduled for opening in summer 2012. Both sections, Nitra-Hronský Beňadik and bypass of Banská Bystrica, are built, and will be operated under the conditions of a Public-private partnership project, unlike the rest of Slovak motorway and expressway network.
