The village was founded around after the mid 17th century in the inland location which is now known as Palio Chorio. It was mentioned in 1700 for the first time as Chora Mikri in a with the older Megali Mantineia. It had 35 families (165 people) in 1700 and 31 in 1703 which paid around 3,204 okades of oil (4,178 kg). It became a part of the municipality of Avia.
In the early 20th century, a small portion of the population moved into the nearby beach areas of Mourti, Panitsa and Myloi without uniting a new settlement. It had 157 in 1851, 183 in 1879 and 173 in 1907. From 1914, it ran an independent community and had 177 persons in 1928. A strong earthquake damages most houses of the village in 1944. The plan at the time moved into the coastal areas in which its residents left. The new seaside settlement was named Mikri Mantineia and the other Palio Chorio. After 1970, many new inhabitants which built their only residents moved into the village. It created a new settlement Perivola.
