Professional career
Vázquez's only losses have come to Mexican Saul Alvarez, who he went the distance with Vázquez on two different occasions in Welterweight bouts.[3][4] His other loss was to Timothy Bradley when he was 20 years old at Light Welterweight, Bradley would go on to say “I knew the fight was going to be tough, he’s Mexican, I give him a lot of credit he’s a good fighter.”[5]
On July 17, 2009 Vázquez became Infamous to boxing fans when he won a unanimous 10 round decision over the undefeated and much heralded Breidis Prescott.[6][7] Prescott is the only fighter not only to beat but K.O. England's Amir Khan.[8]
IBF Lightweight title
On August 14, 2010, Vázquez fought Ji-Hoon Kim for the vacant IBF Lightweight Title.[9] Vázquez beat Kim by Unanimous Decision to win his first championship the IBF Lightweight Title.[10] His successful first title defense was against Ricardo Dominguez in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico.[11]
Vázquez vs. Zappavigna
His successful second title defense was against Leonardo Zappavigna in Las Vegas, Nevada, handing the Australian his first defeat via a wide-margin, 12-round unanimous decision. Zappavigna landed a solid overhand right to the champion early, but Vazquez opened a cut over the challenger's left eye as well, the fighters becoming aggressive from the start.
