Mixed martial arts career
At 26 Patt made his professional MMA debut in 2001, at the Extreme Fights promotion. He went on to achieve a 15-2 record and winning the 8-man tournament in under five minutes at FFC 10 before being called on three-week notice to UFC 88 as a replacement to James Lee, who suffered an injury in training.[1]
Mike Patt is the owner and head instructor of Dayton Mixed Martial Arts Academy. He started his training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with Jorge Gurgel and his Kickboxing training under Oscar Kallet and Jose Connors.[2]
Event promoter
In 2005 Patt co-promoting his first MMA event with longtime event promoter Jeff Osborne. Hook N Shoot : Invasion was the first event held in conjunction with the Arnold Classic Fitness & Martial Arts Expo March 4, 2005. The card featured UFC veteran Aaron Riley as well as the first female MMA fights in Ohio. (Kellyn Heuhn vs Victoria Remington and Jen Case vs Julie Kedzie Showtime EliteXC, BodogFIGHT, KOTC). That same weekend Patt held the first ever amateur MMA event during the Arnold Fitness and Martial Arts Expo at the main event hall on Sunday. The MMA event drew such a crowd, security had to be placed around the event to keep the six person deep crowd from blocking walk ways to vendor booths.
Initially, the Arnold Classic event organizers were skeptical and hesitant about allowing MMA to be part of their event. However, after the seeing the reception MMA received at the Arnold Fitness and Martial Arts Expo organizers have made MMA a yearly event. The UFC or WEC now comes to Columbus, Ohio every year during the Arnold Fitness and Martial Arts Expo as a result of doors opened by Mike Patt and Jeff Osborne. The MMA rules written by Patt for his amateur MMA event were later used as the foundation for the current set of Ohio amateur MMA rules.
In September 2006 Patt launched his Ohio Xtreme Fighting promotion based out of Dayton, Ohio.
Personal life
Patt is dating female mixed martial arts fighter Jan Finney.[3]
