Michael Curtis (TV producer)

Michael Curtis (TV producer)

Michael Curtis is a television producer and writer. He was a writer and executive producer of Friends during seasons 2 to 5. Curtis was executive producer (with Roger S. H. Schulman) of Disney Channel's "Phil of the Future" (season 2, but not season 1). He recently[when?] worked with Jonas Brothers and the Disney Channel as executive producer and co-creator of the series Jonas (season 1, but not season 2). He co-wrote the biblical mockumentary The Making of'...And God Spoke and directed the series finale of Phil of the Future, "Back to the Future (Not the Movie)" and the season 1 finale of Jonas, "Double Date". He is co-founder of Mantis Productions along with Roger S.H. Schulman, co-creater of Jonas.

In 2009, Curtis earned a PhD. in religion from the Universal Life Church. Other awards include two Emmy Award nominations for Friends (Outstanding Comedy Series) and Jonas (Outstanding Children's Program), a Teen Choice Award for "Breakout Comedy Series" (Jonas), a People's Choice Award and Golden Globe nomination for Friends and "Most Books Read" (5th grade) at White Point Elementary School. He once wrote a joke so offensive that even Don Rickles refused to tell it.

Curtis's first and last foray into politics occurred in 1973 when he was voted vice president of his Year Three class at Wollongong Public School in Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. He was the first American citizen to hold this office since the Second World War when the position was held by U.S. Army Brigadier General William F. Heavey of the 2d Engineer Special Brigade.[citation needed] As a result, he was nicknamed "Spiro" in honor of Spiro Agnew, U.S. Vice President at the time. He was also voted "Mom's Favorite" -- (1962–64, 1973, 1980–85, and 1997 [tie]).
