History

The company was founded in 2007 by Rohit Jain, Kunal Sharma and Saurabh Saxena [1], who are graduates from IIT Bombay, a premier engineering institute in Mumbai. The company is part of the Bilakhia Group.

In October 2009, Axiom Education Private Limited announced the transformation of its company name to Mexus Education Private Limited [2]. Saurabh Saxena, Director, Mexus Education, said,“The conversion is undertaken keeping in mind our strategic business plans..."

  • Mexus Education is credited with the launch of India’s first-ever annual paperless science competition for school children, called Iken ScientificA.[3][4]
  • The company also introduced an education portal www.iken.in, which allows students & learners to interact, learn and share knowledge.[5]
  • Iken books and Iken library make use of motion films, animations and mind maps.

Iken

Iken

Iken is the flagship brand of Mexus Education through which interactive learning content is delivered, for which Iken provides IT technology. Iken supplements the NCERT curriculum, based on age group specifications. Iken works on the principle of devising multifarious interactive learning instruments that are exclusively learner-driven and participatory. They incorporate assessment and real time feedback.

Iken Books provide educational content through graphic novels, which incorporate relevant situations and age appropriate characters that grow with the reader. Iken Library is a resource bank of Indian curriculum, in the form of films, presentations, mind maps and hands-on activities [7]. It offers real-time assessment and feedback. Iken Virtual School is an online, multi-dimensional, interactive community comprising students, educators, administrators and parents. Iken Interactive Systems is an iterative and assessment technology that uses two instruments, namely Iken Light and Iken Tablet, to provide digital multimedia content.

Iken Books

Iken Books provides educational content through graphic novels, which incorporates interesting situations and age appropriate characters that grow with the reader. The use of multiple visual cues such as images, charts, mind-maps and recap sections, helps reinforce diverse concepts in a more structured and methodical manner. The book also includes chapter-specific assessments along with an answer-key that aids revision of concepts [8]. The multi player board game at the end of the book serves as an enjoyable and engaging way to compete and revise all concepts across chapters.

Iken Virtual School

Iken Virtual School creates an online community comprising students, educators, administrators and parents, creating multiple interactivity opportunities and benefits. The interaction is with a global audience and evolves in relation to the preferences of the users. Moreover, the website provides a virtual transaction model that allows monetization of each and every learning resource created and shared by the school community through a royalty structure.

Iken Interactive Systems

Iken also provides students with an iterative assessment and feedback technology that helps them make course corrections. This tool also links with their teachers and parents keeping them abreast of the student’s overall development. Iken Interactive System has its two components, iken Light and iken Tablet, to provide digital multimedia content.

Iken Light

Iken Light is a computer-projector-sound system which combines with Iken Tablet to optimize interaction in the classroom. It can project text written on iken Tablet or even data accessed from a computer onto a screen. Besides this, Iken Light is optimally designed for high-speed performance which is used with memory-intensive applications.

Iken Tablet

Iken Tablet is a wireless communication device, the Iken Tablet is a light-weight mobile interactive whiteboard that the teacher can carry around the classroom in her own hand. As the teacher writes on the iken tablet with a wireless pen the same text is projected onto a screen. With a pen and paper touch, the teacher can share information with the students from anywhere in the classroom using the iken Tablet.

Iken Author

Iken Author is an innovative desktop application used for authoring interactive documents for various purposes. It is a user-friendly tool which enables easy creation of multimedia documents with the help of putting together existing text, illustrations, photographs, animations, audios and videos. It supports the integration of interactive questions and exercises as well as an evaluation and feedback system within the same document. It offers a rich graphical interface which can be used by the subject-matter-expert without the need of any programming knowledge. Iken Author can be applied to generate and enrich content for academic courses, teaching lessons, interactive e-learning courses, academic publications, e-learning courses and other purposes.

Iken ScientificA

Iken ScientificA is a national level science competition that is geared to stimulate the curiosity of school children. ScientificA is a platform for students to establish a connection between curricular knowledge and practical application, experiment with what they’ve been taught and showcase their scientific talents and skills.

Commenced in 2007, ScientificA elicited participation in the inaugural year from eight cities, 300 leading schools and 10,000 students. After three rounds, eight winners were selected and honoured as Student Icons.

In 2008, 4 lakh students representing 1200 schools across 20 cities participated in ScientificA [9][10][11]. In 2009, a new concept called Enterprise Index (EI) was introduced, wherein every student received a learning analysis report comprising details of his performance. About 160 students went through events like Techno Maze and Junkreate testing their talent. The national finals were held at Mumbai where four finalists were declared Student Icons.[12][13][14]

In the 2009 edition, Mexus Education in association with National Geographic Channel (NGC) and the Ministry of Science and Technology took 'Iken Scientifica 2009- Season III' to 700 schools across 14cities. The grand finale was held at the renowned knowledge centre of Mumbai, IIT Powai and Singhania School on January 30 & 31, 2010 where 175 finalists from 14 cities competed for the prestigious title of 'Student Icon of India 2009'.[15]
