MediaCorp Subaru Impreza WRX Challenge

MediaCorp Subaru Impreza WRX Challenge (Chinese: 比耐力赢轿车比赛) is an annual challenge organised by MediaCorp Radio and Subaru in Singapore. It has been held at the open air space in front of Ngee Ann City since its inauguration in 2002.

Competition Format

Contestants are required to reach the competition ground at 7 am of the competition day for registration, which is always on a Saturday. The competition itself starts at 1 pm on that day. Contestants are required to keep a hand on a position on the car pre-selected by a lucky draw. The contestant is eliminated if he or she lifts his hand off the car, whether deliberately or accidentally. Contestants are allowed a 5 minute break every 6 hours of the competition, at 7 pm, 1 am, 7 am and 1 pm. The winner wins the Subaru car on offer in the competition.

Rules & Regulations[1]

1. Only food and beverages provided by MediaCorp may be consumed during the challenge 2. Contestants are not allowed to shower, bath or shave. 3. Personal hygiene/cleaning devices such as wet wipes, tissues, talcum powder are prohibited during the Challenge. 4. Any medication necessary are to be taken only during the designated breaks. 5. Verbal or physical act by any contestant to any other contestant is tantamount to immediate disqualification. 6. Contestants are not allowed to soil or stain their clothes or relieve themselves in their clothes during the duration of the Challenge. 7. Smoking is not allowed unless during the designated breaks.

Yearly Highlights

In 2005, the competition was called the Subaru Team Challenge as it was a competition by teams consisting of 2 people per team, and when one is disqualified, the entire team was out. Two cars were awarded for the winners that year.

In 2007, the format was the "Battle of the Sexes", and the winner of the men and women categories both won a car each.

In 2008, regional contestants from Hong Kong, Thailand, Philippines and Malaysia joined in to mark the first time the competition went into a regional format, called the "Regional Face Off".

In 2009, contestants from China, Taiwan and Indonesia joined them in the 2009 edition and renamed the "Asian Face Off".

Contestants from Vietnam joined the fray in the 2010 edition. In the 2011 edition, there are no contestants from Hong Kong for the first time in three years, but contestants from Cambodia and Macau are added into the contest.

Mediacorp Subaru Impreza Challenge – The Asian Face-off 2010[2]

This year's competition will be held on 30 October.[dated info] This year's contenders includes participants from Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, China, Indonesia, Taiwan and Vietnam, which is participating for the very first time. The longest-standing contestant will win a brand new Subaru Impreza 2.5L MT Sedan worth $98,800. There will be two qualifying rounds for the challenge. For the first round, radio listeners are required to call in during the qualifying period (20 Sept 2010 – 22 Oct 2010) to any of the three stations (Gold 90.5FM, Class 95FM and 987FM) when they hear the invitation to call. The first two callers of each call-in segment will enter the Second Qualifying Round, which will take place on Saturday, 30 October 2010. All qualifying contestants will be required to place a non-refundable registration fee of S$10 (cash) each. The draw for all contestants who got through the First Qualifying Round will take place at 11 am. Out of this group, 320 contestants will move on to take part in the Challenge with the ten cars on-site (forty contestants per car).
