Background

Aoki was born on October 11, 1979(1979-10-11) in Aichi Prefecture, Japan.[1] Before MMA, Aoki practiced powerlifting,[1][2] competing in some tournaments in Japan.[3][4][5]

Mixed martial arts career

Aoki debuted in MMA on May 3, 2006 (2006-05-03) at Smackgirl-F 2006: The Next Cinderella Tournament 2006, losing against Rie Murakami by submission (guillotine choke).[1][6]

Her next match was also a loss, this time at the hands of Mizuho Sato via unanimous decision at Smackgirl-F 2006: Women's Fighting Road vol. 1 on October 21, 2006 (2006-10-21).[7][8]

On March 11, 2007 (2007-03-11), Aoki got her first professional victory by defeating Hitomi Sakamoto with an armbar submission at Smackgirl-F 2007: The Next Cinderella Tournament 2007 First Stage.[9][10]

At Smackgirl 2007: The Dance of the Taisho Romance on April 28, 2007 (2007-04-28), Aoki faced Megumi Yabushita, who defeated Aoki by unanimous decision.[11][12]

Aoki defeated Harumi by unanimous decision on May 19, 2007 (2007-05-19) at Smackgirl: The Next Cinderella 2007 Second Stage.[13][14]

On December 26, 2007 (2007-12-26), Aoki fought against Kanako Takeshita at Smackgirl 7th anniversary: Starting Over, being defeated by Takeshita with a kimura submission.[15][16][17]

Debuting with the word "Super" added to her ring name on April 25, 2008 (2008-04-25), Aoki participated in Smackgirl's last event, Smackgirl World ReMix Tournament 2008 Second Round, losing against Miki Morifuji by split decision.[18][19]

Aoki debuted with MMA promotion Jewels in the event Jewels 1st Ring on November 16, 2008 (2008-11-16), where she was defeated by Hiroko Yamanaka by unanimous decision.[20][21][22]

Aoki rebounded with a victory by armbar submission over Chihiro Oikawa at Jewels 2nd Ring on February 4, 2009 (2009-02-04).[23][24][25][26]

On July 12, 2009 (2009-07-12) at Cage Force & Valkyrie, Aoki defeated Mizuho Sato by TKO (punches), avenging her 2006 loss against Sato.[7][27][28]

Continuing with her winning streak, Aoki faced Mongolian pro-wrestler Esui at Jewels 9th Ring on July 31, 2010 (2010-07-31), defeating her via technical submission (armbar).[29][30]

Aoki was defeated by Rin Nakai via armbar submission during the semi-finals of the tournament to determine Valkyrie's first open weight champion on September 26, 2010 (2010-09-26) at Valkyrie 07.[31][32]

On November 28, 2010 (2010-11-28) at Valkyrie 08, Aoki was defeated via unanimous decision by Ayame Miura.[33][34]

Aoki was scheduled to face Shizuka Sugiyama at Jewels 12th Ring on March 11, 2011 (2011-03-11) in Tokyo, Japan,[35] but the event was cancelled after the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami earlier in the day.[36][37][38]

Kickboxing career

On August 23, 2009 (2009-08-23), Aoki was defeated via TKO (referee stoppage) by Hiroko Yamanaka, who had also defeated Aoki in MMA, in a shoot boxing bout at Shoot Boxing Girls S-Cup 2009.[39][40][41]
