Due to the poor response toward their second album's many co-writers, this album was written solely by the band members. Derek Sanders has stated that they tried to keep all the sounds live and organic during the recording process, including bringing in a real string section.[14]
The album's 12 tracks were whittled down from an alleged 16-17 originally written songs. It was also announced that ILG would be releasing the album.[15]
The first song off the album "Oh Well, Oh Well" was streamed on Alt Press on July 27. The song was officially released on iTunes on August 1, 2011.[16] The second single, "When You See My Friends," was released on September 8, 2011.

"Happy Endings Are Stories that Haven't Ended Yet" is a quote by Jane Smith, played by Angelina Jolie, from the 2005 action film Mr. & Mrs. Smith, much like how "Champagne's for Celebrating (I'll Have a Martini)", from their debut album, was a quote by John Smith, played by Brad Pitt, from the same movie.
