Maya Gabeira

Maya Gabeira (born April 10, 1987 in Rio de Janeiro) is a professional big wave surfer from Brazil.

Career highlights

In 2009, Gabeira won the ESPY award for Best Female Action Sports Athlete.^[1] Later that year, Gabeira surfed the biggest wave ever by a female when she successfully surfed a 45-foot wave at Dungeons, a big wave surf spot in South Africa.^[2]

In 2010, she was awarded with the Billabong Girls Best Overall Performance Award for a record four straight years in a row.^[3]

Gabeira's current sponsors include Billabong and Red Bull.

Personal life

Gabeira's father is Fernando Gabeira, one of the founding members of the Green Party of Brazil.^[4]

She is currently living in San Diego, California.

She is currently dating actor Jesse Spencer.
