Masur (Devanagari: मसूर) is small town in Satara district of Maharashtra in India. It is located between Satara and Karad, seven kilometers away from National Highway No. 4. Its population is about 16,000. It is notable as the site of one of the eleven temples built by the Hindu saint, Ramdas. The Masurashram was situated in Masur, where Vinayak Maharaj and Kaka Joshi who gave lessons on the Dasbodh and Manache Shlok of Ramdas. A son of Kaka Joshi, Dr. Jeshthraj Joshi is a scientist and winner of the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar award. Ganesh festival of Masur is very famous. Temple of Bhairoba is one of the best places in Masur.

Masur is located 15 km from Karad. Masur was one of the important towns in Shivaji Maharaj's rule. There is one fort,called "BhuiKot Killa" where at this time there is a zp primary school. The Jagadale is famous surname in Masur.A Masur's Jagadale is now in every where in world.Now Masur is very developed. Population about 20,000.An old temple of God Maruti is here.A function of Bhairvnath is started to Maghi Pornima( Fullmoon) in feb. This function about 15 days. Going on Ganesh Yatra is most famous in Masur. This function is next day of Anatchaturdashi Masur is one picnic spot. In here Ganesh mandir famous in Satara district.Biroba yatra is famous in Masur.All dhangar caste celebrates this function.There is a railway station near about 2 km away from centre. In station godawoon is available.Masur is well-Known place for Clothes Market and many other.People near by villages come here for shopping.

Hanbarwadi (6 Km away from MASUR Population: 2000 approx) one the small but famous goan in masur. It is well known for the Vitthal mandir built-in by famous MAULI BABA(saint).Vitthal mandir has history to its name(Year 2009)for AKHANDAVeena means the instrument was not kept down form last 101 years & is continiously been played by the vitthal bhakts from Hanbarwadi till date(This incident was covered by the news channel & was famous among the people).Its all well managed by the trusti(President:Bhagvat Desai) of vitthal mandir by rotating the shifts of playing Veena among each single house of the Wadi.People celebrate the HARINAAM SAPTHA (in the memory of MAULI BABA)in the vitthal mandir for the WEEK after KARTIKI EKADASHI.SAINTS from the remote places in the maharashtra visits the mandir.The program such as KAKAD-AARTI,PRAVACHAN BHAJAN & KIRTAN.On the last day of the SAPTHA the famous SAINT from KHEDLE-ZUNGE Kashinath Baba visits the mandir.The last day is for KALYACHE KIRTAN, followed by a small Dahihandi in the day time & PADHYATRA in the evening around the WADI. Varkaris also visit AALANDI & Pandharpur(One of the holy places in Maharashtra) on regular basis on AASHADI,KARTIKI EKADASHI'S in the form of DINDI(By walking). All programs are arranged by the well famous DESAI family in HANBARWADI.

There is a famous Momin Mohalla towards the west of Masur. People of the Momin community reside in this area. For the last 50 yrs no development has taken place in this area. There is an old Masjid near the mohalla. The Masjid was taken up for reconstruction in 2006. It's work is still going on due to lack of funds. A Momin house closest to the Masjid belongs to a famous ladies tailor named Begum Momin. People from all over the village and also from neighboring villages come here to stitch their clothes.
