Master of Arts (disambiguation)

The Magister Artium, Magister in Artibus, or Master of Arts degree is an academic degree of medieval origin which has later acquired different characteristics at different universities and in different educational systems. It may refer more specifically to:

  • Master of Arts, a higher degree at many universities in the United Kingdom and many Commonwealth Nations, the United States and some European countries;
  • Master of Arts (Oxbridge and Dublin), a degree at the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, or the University of Dublin (Trinity College), to which those Bachelors of Arts who graduated with honours (and certain other individuals) are admitted after an interval without further study;
  • Master of Arts (Scotland), a first degree at the ancient universities of Scotland (e.g. St. Andrews) and the University of Dundee. After graduation in a Master of Arts, (effectively a bachelors degree) students are admitted to a Master of Philosophy (Mphil) or the Master of Letters (Mlitt - Magister Litterarum).
