Maniktala (Vidhan Sabha constituency) (Bengali: মানিকতলা বিধানসভা কেন্দ্র) is an assembly constituency in Kolkata in the Indian state of West Bengal.

Extent

As per orders of the Delimitation Commission, No. 167 Maniktala (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is composed of the following: Ward Nos. 11 to 16, 31 and 32 of Kolkata municipal corporation.[1]

Maniktala (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is part of No. 24 Kolkata Uttar (Lok Sabha constituency).[1]Prior to the Indian general election, 2009 it was part of Calcutta North East (Lok Sabha constituency).[2]

In the 2011 elections , Sadhan Pande of Trinamool Congress defeated his nearest rival Rupa Bagchi of CPI(M).

Trinamool Congress gain from CPI(M) Swing

1977-2006

In the 2006 state assembly elections, Rupa Bagchi of CPI(M) won the Manicktola assembly seat defeating her nearest rival Paresh Paul of Trinamool Congress. Paresh Paul of Trinamool Congress defeated Shyamal Chakraborty of CPI(M) in 2001 and 1996. Shyamal Chakraborty of CPI(M) defeated Paresh Paul of Congress in 1991, Bimalendu Roy of Congress in 1987, and Dulaleswar Roy of Congress in 1982. Suhrid Mullick Chowdhury of CPI(M) defeated Ashok Das Gupta of Janata Party in 1977.[6]

1951-1972

Ila Mitra of CPI won in 1972. Anila Debi of CPI(M) won in 1971. Ila Mitra of CPI won in 1969, 1967 and 1962. Ranendranath Sen of CPI won in 1957 and in independent India’s first election in 1951.[7]

Sukeas Street

There was a constituency at Sukeas Street in 1957 and 1962. Keshab Chandra Basu of Congress won in 1962. Suhrid Mallick Choudhury of CPI won in 1957.[7]
