West Bengal state assembly election, 1952

The West Bengal state assembly election of 1952, part of a series of state assembly elections in 1952.

Alliances

On the political left, two alliances had emered the United Socialist Organisation of India (an alliance between the Communist Party of India, the Socialist Republican Party [Contested as independents. Rao (2003) estimates that they had 19 candidates, out of whom 4 were elected.] and the Forward Bloc (Marxist Group)) and the People's United Socialist Front (comprised of the Socialist Party, the Forward Bloc (Ruikar) and the Revolutionary Communist Party of India). Results

The election was won by the Indian National Congress, who got a majority of its own in the assembly. The communists became the largest opposition party.
