Malahide Community School (MCS; Irish: Pobalscoil Íosa) is a co-educational, inclusive secondary school located in Malahide, North County Dublin, Ireland that welcomes pupils of all religious denominations. The school has grown from an entrance of 512 students in 1976 to over 1200 students since 2006.

History

In the early 1950s Mrs. Catherine Dowling set up the Stella Maris School in Malahide Village. In 1958 the Infant Jesus Sisters founded Scoil Íosa, a secondary school for girls on what are now the grounds of Malahide Community School. Mrs. Dowling amalgamated her school with the convent and joined the staff of the newly established school.

In 1976 the school joined the community school system which meant that it was no longer private(Independent) and became Pobalscoil Íosa. A new, fully equipped building, now known as the Junior Block was added, followed shortly afterward by the Sports Hall.

The New Building

The long awaited three story school building, planned in 2005 but to be built by November 2006 had many delays, it was finally in operation by February 2007. The first part of the demolition was started on Wednesday the 14th of March and was completed before the Leaving Certificate that took place in early June. The grand opening of the new school took place on the 5th of October with the Minister for Education and Science, Mary Hanafin.[2] Over the summer of 2008, the canteen facility was planned to be operational and in use for the new school year. By the latter half of that year, the new canteen was functional.
