Mahmud Shinkafi was elected governor of Zamfara State, Nigeria in April 2007. He was a former member of the All Nigeria Peoples Party, and is now a member of the People's Democratic Party.^{[citation needed]} He is of Muslim faith and has three wives.^[1]
