"Durango 95" is an instrumental song by the punk rock band The Ramones. It is featured as track number 4th in their 8th studio album Too Tough To Die. The song is a cultural reference to the car driven by Malcolm McDowell's character in the 1971 film "A Clockwork Orange."[1]

Composition

Durango 95 is a three-chord song, that contains a bass line equal to the first note of every chord of the guitar. The drum style is quite complicated due to the cymbal crashes. The song is the shortest of all the album and it was just made instrumental to fulfill the cultural reference Johnny Ramone wanted to give it.[2]

Live Shows

After releasing Too Tough To Die, the Ramones used to start the shows with "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" theme song in a slow crescendo and it its climax, they would started playing Durango 95. This is shown in the "Loco Live" and We're Outta Here! live albums, released respectively in 1991 and in 1997.[3][4]
