(10)Dream Away is a song off of George Harrison's 1982 album Gone Troppo, which was also released as a single (Japan only). The song was featured in the ending credits of George Harrison's HandMade Films's Time Bandits.[1] This was the only song to be featured in the film, and was written specifically for it.
Background
At the time of this song, Harrison had been finding the current musical climate alienating. His commercial appeal had dwindled, with 1981's Somewhere in England failing to go gold (despite featuring the John Lennon tribute smash hit, "All Those Years Ago"). With one album left on his current recording contract, Harrison decided to get it over with and recorded Gone Troppo (an Australian slang expression meaning "gone mad/crazy") When finalizing the tracks for the Gone Troppo album, George decided to put Dream Away (a song for Terry Gilliam's Time Bandits) in the mix. Although the Gone Troppo album was a commercial flop, Dream Away became a popular tune.
In 2010, AOL radio listeners chose "Dream Away" as one of the 10 Best George Harrison Songs, appearing at #8 on the list.[2]
