Main characters

Drake Parker

Drake (portrayed by Drake Bell) the main protagonist is depicted as an easygoing, popular, irresponsible, and self-absorbed teenager. Although he often appears unintelligent, his under-achievement seems to be caused by laziness and he is been known to act before he thinks. Drake has great interest in music, playing the electric guitar in a band throughout the series and liking all forms, his favorite being rock. He usually takes advantage of Josh to get what he wants. He has a lot of success with girls and much of the comedy is his effortless ability to get dates. Drake had felt embarrassed about his new stepbrother at first, but has grown to accept Josh more. Despite his selfishness and laziness, Drake still remains a likable character and redeems himself by doing the right thing. In 2010, Drake Bell made an appearance in the iCarly episode "iBloop" which stars his Drake & Josh co-star Miranda Cosgrove. He reprised his role as Drake Parker to make an appearance in the episode, during which he seems to have stepped into the alternate fictional universe of iCarly where he recognises Cosgrove's character as Megan Parker and follows by asking the whereabouts of Josh and the rest of his family.

Josh Nichols

Josh (portrayed by Josh Peck) is the educationally successful and responsible one, although he is not even close to being the socially successful one. He had a job for the school newspaper as Miss Nancy in Season 1. Unlike Drake, he usually stresses over school a lot and uses his common sense. Despite his good character and good grades, Josh is prone to bad luck, especially with girls. He often has a bad habit when a person tells him to take care of something, when Josh questionably objects, the person tells him more firmly. Later, he begins to date Mindy Crenshaw, who was an academic rival. Josh has a job at the Premiere movie theater, where he gets an average number of customers. He loves his job and has had hopes of becoming assistant manager. His hobbies are playing video games, cooking, and performing magic tricks. He usually suffers expense from Drake's carefree behavior, but the brothers somehow complete each other. Later in the series, Josh becomes more popular and gains better luck. He was always considered obese, but suggestively lost a large amount of weight throughout the series. He is obsessed with Oprah Winfrey and ran her over with his car by accident. Even though Drake is usually more successful with girls, Josh gets 22 dates in a week to win a bet from Drake in the episode "Who's got Game." Josh is known to have a perfect attendance, but that came to an end in "The Affair" when he and Drake skip school to see if Walter is cheating on their mom. Mindy is his girlfriend at the end of the series. Josh Nichols has appeared in every single episode. Josh reprises his role and appears in Victorious in the episode Wok Star, where he attends Jade's play and after the commencement he greets her to tell her "Great Work" and attempts to shake her hand, and she shrugs him off by saying "Whatever". His catchphrase is "Oh Geez" when something goes wrong for him. In the first two seasons, he is billed before Drake.

Megan Parker

Megan (portrayed by Miranda Cosgrove) is Drake's sassy, mischievous, fraudulent, and "evil" little sister and Josh's stepsister, who takes after him in the worst ways. She's the main antagonist of the series. She constantly pulls pranks on Drake and Josh and enjoys seeing them suffer. Many of her pranks display enormous brutality, some of them even life-threatening (in one episode, she attempts to electrocute Josh; in another, she attempts to blow the two up; it is also heavily implied in multiple episodes that her pranks have drawn blood). Megan shows almost no remorse for her actions. Megan also blames her brothers if she does something wrong or bad and almost always gets away with it. She also has many high-tech gadgets and cameras positioned around the house to spy on her brothers. Drake and Josh have tried to foil her plans and convince their parents that she is evil, but always fail. Megan is always one step ahead. The fact that she is a little girl makes it impossible for anyone to believe Drake and Josh when they blame her for their misfortunes. Megan has apparently been evil for a long time, as a toddler she threw a cookie at Josh during a baseball game causing him to blame Drake and sparking a fight between them and at the age of five she pushed Drake off her bedroom window and told their mother he fell. She loves them deep down, although she rarely admits it. She finally did show her love to them in the episode "Megan's First Kiss" by kissing both of them on the cheek - it is therefore unknown specifically why she achieves happiness from frequently torturing and injuring them. In later seasons, Megan annoys her stepfather by calling him "Walter" to which he responds "when did she start..?" and then someone interrupting him. In rare cases, Drake and Josh are successful in getting an advantage on Megan, but she always turns the tables at the end. One of her favorite things to do is play the oboe. A running gag is that she calls people (especially Drake and Josh) "boobs" to irritate them. Megan Parker appeared in every single episode.

Audrey Parker-Nichols

Audrey (portrayed by Nancy Sullivan) is the mother of Drake and Megan and stepmother of Josh. Her real name is never mentioned in the series, is revealed in most scripts as "Audrey". She is usually telling the boys to try not to be so immature. She upsets her husband Walter because of her preference to Bruce Winchill, his rival weatherman. Because Walter is unable to discipline Drake and Josh, she usually has to punish the boys although these punishments are usually unfair because most are Megan's fault. Her profession was never specified in the series, but it is generally assumed that she is a housewife.

Walter Nichols

Walter (portrayed by Jonathan Goldstein) is Josh's father and Megan and Drake's stepfather. He is a meteorologist for a local TV news program in San Diego, but he is often wrong about the weather. Walter is often clumsy, out of date, and seemingly empty-headed. As a result, he lacks the respect of his stepchildren as Drake and Megan (they refuse to call him "Dad" in most episodes and instead call him by his first name, which stepchildren commonly do). He is also clueless in regards to Megan's pranks which have caused Drake and Josh a lot of punishments, although in seasons 3 and 4, Walter slowly begins to notice Megan's evil ways. A running gag involves a rivalry between him and Bruce Winchill, an unseen weatherman from another station. He hates that Winchill is so popular, as he is always right with his predictions, and forbids use of Winchill's name in the house.

Recurring characters

Craig Ramirez and Eric Blonowitz

Craig (portrayed by Alec Medlock) and Eric (portrayed by Scott Halberstadt) are two stereotypical "nerdy" honor students that are always being exploited by Drake, mostly due to his hare-brained schemes. Drake often mistakes Eric for Craig. Eric first appeared in the pilot episode as an extra and, along with Craig, a few times in Season 2, but they appear more frequently in Seasons 3 and 4. They usually are good friends and good in nature, but not free of a selfish side. Eric left for Puerto Rico in the episode "Dance Contest," even though it was set before "Really Big Shrimp" which included both Craig and Eric (possibly due to the fact the movie premiered before the episode). They are similar to and loosely based on Cecily and Gwendolyn Pigeon from The Odd Couple, such as the characters' names always get mixed up by the sloppiest protagonist Drake/Oscar. Craig and Eric appear on iCarly in "iStart a Fan War" with Gavin, implying that iCarly and Drake and Josh take place within the same universe. Eric Blonowitz is the similar name of a character on Victorious, Erwin Sikowitz.

Mindy Crenshaw

Mindy (portrayed by Allison Scagliotti) is Josh's girlfriend. She is loosely based on Frances Unger from The Odd Couple since her relationships with Josh during the third and fourth seasons are similar to the relationship between Frances and Felix Unger, who were both a married couple that eventually divorced due to their major differences. Mindy despises Drake, often calling him an underachevier due to his poor performance in school. When she is introduced in the episode Honor Council, she is Josh's rival at school and enjoys reminding Josh that she defeated in the science fair five years in a row. Mindy framed Drake for something she herself did and almost got him suspended, though he accepts her relationship with Josh, saying he doesn't like half the girls he dates. Mindy and Josh later start dating. In the episode "Mindy Loves Josh," she tells Josh that she loves him. Josh freaks out and tells Drake. Drake tells him that this is all a plan to take his mind out of an upcoming school competition. Josh believes Drake and wins the competition. Later, he tell Mindy that she should be ashamed of herself. Mindy responds that she let Josh win on purpose because she feels bad when loses. She later proves to him that her project was better than his. Josh gives the first prize to her and apologizes for his behavior before they break up. In the episode "Eric Punches Drake," when Mindy's cousin comes to town, Josh thinks that he is her boyfriend and feels jealous. She later comes to Josh and explains who he is before they start kissing. Josh says to her that "We are still broken-up right?" she answers "Definitely," but they continue kissing and eventually get back together in the TV special Really Big Shrimp.

Helen Ophelia Dubois

Helen (portrayed by Yvette Nicole Brown) is the manager of the Premiere theater (the movie theater where Josh [and formerly Drake] has a job), connected to the Premiere Galleria, a mall. She is known for her intimidation factor due to her loud voice and orders for her employees. She adores Drake, but is annoyed by Josh despite the hard work he puts in at the theater. She also starred in a hit television show as a child, called "Happy Times" (a parody of the classic 1970s sitcoms Happy Days and Good Times). Though Yvette Nicole Brown plays Helen normally, Frances Callier filled in for her and portrayed her in the episode "Little Diva". She became married to Buzz Baxter in the episode "Really Big Shrimp", but divorced him some time before Merry Christmas, Drake and Josh after five weeks.

Helen left the Premiere theater to take a job as principal of Hollywood arts on another Schneider show, Victorious. She appeared in the episode, "Helen Back Again."

"Crazy" Steve

Steve (portrayed by Jerry Trainor) is an employee at the Premiere movie theater. He is responsible for giving Josh the job offer in the theater where Josh makes a tiny complaint to him about the cupholders in the theater and he angrily quits. However, he was somehow rehired back into the theater during the later seasons and became a regular on the show. He is hard working and pretty calm at times, but once someone (usually Josh) criticizes his work or does something he hates, he loses his mind and yells at this situation. This is shown in Really Big Shrimp when Mindy Crenshaw, whom Helen hired to be assistant manager while she was preparing for her wedding, scheduled Steve to work on a Monday, not knowing that Monday was his "bad day". When this happened, Steve went into a rampage in the movie theater and did not calm down until Josh sang "She'll Be Coming 'Round the Mountain" to him. Josh states to Mindy that no one knows why this song calms Steve. In the television movie Really Big Shrimp, he is able to vacuum the floor by thinking of the stains on the floor as his father, who later revealed that he forced him to go to fat camp and made him do his mother's laundry as a kid. The only set of clothing he is seen wearing is his Premiere uniform. Curiously, his maturity greatly varies from his first appearance to the rest of the series, while he is describable as childish and mentally unstable, his initial appearance shows him as nothing more than a irritable and cynical person. It is revealed in the episode The Storm he likes to watch Dora the Explorer and he gets very frustrated when she asks where the destinations are located when she cannot find them herself. In Merry Christmas, Drake and Josh, he owns and drives a DeLorean with license plate number CRAZY 1 (for his craziness) and it falls off when he drives away very fast like in Back to the Future.

Gavin Mitchell

Gavin (portrayed by Jake Farrow) works with Josh at the Premiere and has a mullet-like haircut (in Season 4's "Who's Got Game" he got a perm). A running gag throughout the series involved Helen asking him to tell Josh to clean something unusual in the theater. He then cleans up the mess himself - telling Josh "I got it." He also has a crush on Drake's mother. He can apparently get away with anything at work, like taking a nap on the roof. He first appeared in "Driver's License" and made a final appearance in Merry Christmas, Drake & Josh. Gavin appears on iCarly in "iStart a Fan War" with Craig and Eric.

Mrs. Hayfer

Mrs. Alice/Linda Hayfer (portrayed by Julia Duffy) is Drake and Josh's English teacher who adores Josh (due to his hard-working personality), but hates Drake because of his consistently poor performance in school (and judging by the doodles Drake made of Mrs. Hayfer in his English notebook in "Honor Council", Drake hates her in return). In fact, her catchphrase is "I hate you, Drake," with Drake responding, "I know." She also always says "To the nurse!, which is her own bizarre way by telling people to leave her classroom. In Little Sibling, Mrs. Hayfer says it to Josh when she wanted to have a private talk with Drake. Mrs. Hayfer has a daughter named Kelly, who Drake briefly dates, much to her discontent. In Honor Council,, she comes into the classroom to find her car parked where Drake and Josh's seats were originally and accuses Drake of putting the car their, but her star student, Mindy, was the real culprit. In this episode, it was said that her first name was Alice. However, in Vicious Tiberious, her name is shown in a video as Linda Hayfer. She also appears in the movie, Merry Christmas, Drake and Josh while Drake is driving his car.

Dr. Jeff Glazer

Dr. Jeff Glazer (portrayed by Roark Critchlow) is a doctor who lives across the street from Drake and Josh. He is always called on whenever a serious emergency happens at their house. Although he always seems kind while performing medical procedures for Drake and Josh, he always leaves the two brothers with a ridiculously high bill for his services (he once charged $100 for diagnosing a sheep as pregnant after she had her baby and an extra $50 not to tell Drake and Josh's parents, and charged $300 for diagnosing Drake's facial rash). He first appeared in "The Bet" and last appeared in "Sheep Thrills".

Bruce Winchill

Bruce Winchill is a weatherman who works for Walter's competition news station. He is never seen on the show, but mentioned from time to time. He is described by Megan and Audrey as having good-looking hair and hated by Walter so much that at times he orders his family, never to mention his name in the house. Walter lost the Weather Man Award at the "News-ies" to him, because Winchill's forecasts were 100% accurate, far more accurate than his. Bruce's last name may be a pun on windchill.

Leah

Leah (portrayed by Cathy Shim) is a Premiere employee who is friends with Josh. In several episodes, she can be seen talking with him at work. She is very scared of "Crazy" Steve.

Minor characters

Grammy Nichols

Grammy Nichols (portrayed by Randee Heller) is Josh's grandmother and Walter's mother. She loves Josh and Megan, but hates Drake. In her only appearance in Season 1, she expresses anger towards Drake when he decides to go to a concert even though his parents said he was not allowed to. At the end of the episode, Grammy shows affection toward Drake when he attempts to tell his parents the truth. Even though she never made an appearance in the series afterwards, Grammy she was later mentioned frequently. She sent gifts to Josh many times. She was last mentioned in the episode Tree House.

Papa Nichols

Papa Nichols (portrayed by Vernon Roberts) is Drake, Josh and Megan's great-grandfather and Walter's grandfather. In his only appearance in Season 3, he had surgery and said he fought in World War II. Craig and Eric come over and watch him while Drake, Josh and Megan go to Mystic Mountain to ride the Demonator, but when he wakes up disorientedly, he thinks he is back in the war and attacks them, thinking they are Germans (whom he called "German Nerds"). When Eric's cell phone rings, Papa Nichols, thinking it is a weapon, throws it at the wall and breaks it. At the end of The Demonator, he punches Walter and calls him a "German." He is later mentioned once by Josh in Season 4's The Wedding.

Jackie

Jackie (portrayed by Robin Sydney) is obsessed with Drake and appeared in a total of four episodes of series. She would come into the scene randomly (usually at the end, specifically when something positive happens to Drake), and shout hysterically, "I love you! Bye!" This was considered to be one of the several running gags of the series. Whenever she would appear randomly and run off, Drake would say, "Who is she?"

Trevor

Trevor (portrayed by Taran Killam) is Drake's absent-minded friend and Scottie's brother. Even though he only appeared in one episode ("Dune Buggy"), he was mentioned several times in the series, and his voice was heard over the phone in "Josh Runs into Oprah".

Robbie Bernstein

Robbie Bernstein (portrayed by Ryan Alvarez) is another nerd who works for the school's paper. He appeared in three episodes.

Christine

Christine (portrayed by Sarah Christine Smith) is Drake's ex-girlfriend. She appeared in "The Storm".

Carly

Carly (portrayed by Brittany Curran) is Drake's current girlfriend. She first appears in "Who's Got Game" where Josh challenges Drake on who can get the most dates. Drake meets her at the CD shop where she works and falls in love with her at first sight. Carly grew fond of him too after meeting him. She dumps Drake when she finding out about the bet, thinking Drake was just using her. He then proves to her that he can be honest and they continue dating. She makes her final appearance in "The Storm" where she befriends Christine and Lucy, Drake's ex-girlfriends.

Lucy

Lucy (portrayed by Gabrielle Christian) is another ex-girlfriend of Drake. She was introduced in "Girl Power," where she admitted to be tougher than Drake. Although Drake disagreed, Lucy decided that the two of them should fight. Drake was hesitant about fighting her. Lucy is considered to be a tomboy. She returned in "The Storm", where she befriended Carly, and Christine (Drake's current girlfriend and ex-girlfriend, respectively).

"Hot" Liza Tupper

Liza Tupper (portrayed by Sofia Sokolov) is one of Drake's dates. She appeared in "Playing the Field" where Drake dated her just to make his ex-girlfriend Tori jealous. Liza is a people person, adoring animals and her dad is in the military. She was mentioned again in "Dr. Phyllis Show" where Drake and Josh told Dr. Phyllis Tupper (played by Gabrielle Carteris) about her, not realizing that Liza is her daughter. Phyllis then goes into a rage and attacks Drake (and later Josh) for using Liza.

Clayton

Clayton (portrayed by Josh Sussman) is one of the nerdy kids at school. He has talking problems since he mumbles and no one can understand what he is saying. Even Craig and Eric call him a "nerd," considering they are nerds themselves. He appears in two episodes.

Drake's Band

Drake's Band was the band which Drake was the frontman.

  • Scottie (portrayed by Johnny Lewis, 2004–2005) is a former drummer of Drake's band. He was considered to be unintelligent, according to Drake and the other band members. He, Rina and Paul were never seen again after that. Scottie is Trevor's brother.
  • Rina (portrayed by Molly Orr, 2004–2005) is the former bassist of Drake's band, appearing in four episodes from season 1. She and Paul caused Drake peer pressure in the episode "Grammy", when they had concert tickets to Rock Shock, the concert that Drake was not allowed to attend.
