Carteris was born in
Scottsdale, Arizona , the daughter of Marlene, a realtor, and Ernest Carteris, a restaurant owner of Greek descent. She has atwin brother, James. Her parents separated six months after her birth. Carteris's mother moved with her children toSan Francisco, California , where she set up a children's clothing store. While attending high school inMarin County, California , Carteris took an interest in the arts, studyingballet and performing as a mime on a European tour at sixteen. In 1990, Carteris was cast as the studious school newspaper editor Andrea Zuckerman on "Beverly Hills: 90210". At age 29, she was the oldest cast member to portray a high-school "sophomore" *note: season 1 they were juniors, which means she was cast as a junior not a sophomore, season 2 all the 90210 cast repeated their junior year except for Brian Austin Green who was apparently smarter than the rest of the cast (tongue in cheek) because he was promoted to a sophomore from a freshman. She left the series in 1995 and became host of her own
tabloid talk show , which lasted only one season. In 2003, she participated in the first season of the celebrity reality television show "The Surreal Life ". Her most recent project was providing the voice of Elektra in "".Filmography
