Donato Perez Garcia (born October 22, 1896 in Mexico City. Died December 12, 1971 in Mexico City) developed and practiced insulin potentiation therapy, an unproven treatment for cancer, in Mexico City. He also demonstrated and patented IPT in the United States.
Garcia started out with a traditional MD education, with specialized training in surgery, dental surgery, urology, and gynecology/obstetrics. He became the Medical Director of the Civil Hospital M.A.Camacho, and the Director of the Military College Hospital. He was the personal doctor of Mexican presidents Manuel A. Camacho and Lázaro Cárdenas.[citation needed] And he was very active and honored as a military doctor during the Mexican Revolution, retiring with the rank of Brigadier General.[citation needed]
From observing the reactions of his own body to insulin, he developed IPT. On April 10 of 1944 Time Magazine presented the results of his treatment at the San Diego Naval Hospital.[1][not in citation given]
In later years, from 1954 to 1970, with his son at his side, he investigated electrochemical reactions of the blood, and believed that he could use them as a quick and simple tool to measure the health of the body and to detect disease, especially cancer, but his theories have not been accepted by other medical professionals.
Three patents have been issued for IPT in the United States, and the last two have also been issued in Canada. First Patent issued on the year of 1939 to Donato Perez Garcia. The second patent was issued in 1990. The third patent was issued in 1992. These are all primarily method patents. And medical method patents are generally not enforceable, except through contracts.
