Writing Career
Turlington‘s first book, called "Sakhalin to Santa", is about adopting a child from Russia. He was inspired to write the book after he was contracted to write the sound track for a short film, of that same name, that the International Adoption Contact Group produced in August 2007. The book was published by International Adoption Contact, LLC in August 2008, and is a descriptive tale of what it took to adopt his first daughter Kasenia, from Sakhalin, Russia in 2005 and the trials that people go through when adopting a child across international lines. After writing "Sakhalin to Santa", Turlington was contracted to write another book, Guatemalan Fajitas, which was published in November 2010 by BVC Press.[3] "Guatemalan Fajitas" takes the reader through the battles that Don and his family went through when they adopted his daughter, Meliza, from Guatemala in 2008.
His third book, his first work of fiction, is called “The Passage Fairies”. This book was inspired by some of the experiences his daughter from Russia, Kasenia, had when she was first moved to the United States from her native land. After it was published by BVC Press[4] in November 2010, Turlington was commissioned to create a series around the book.
Music Career
Turlington, who is signed to record label Toby 1-2 Records[5] creates his music under the name of Ballet Wednesday. The name Ballet Wednesday was created when he was writing and composing his first album, “January”[6] in 2008. He was spending each Wednesday in the bar next to the ballet studio while waiting for his daughter, Kasenia, who was in ballet class at the studio next to the bar. The album was released in February 2010. His second album, “A Farolito X-mas”,[7] was released in late September 2010.[8]
He is completely internet based and although he does sell full CDs, the main focus is on singles sold on iTunes and Napster.
Turlington, who is completely self taught, states that his music is influenced by artists ranging from George Winston to Jan Hammer.
The music for the two albums January and A Farlito X-Mas was created solely in Turlington’s home studio and is electronic music which he composes using keyboards and electronic synthesizers.
Turlington is also in collaboration on another project with a guitarist named Gregg Voss. The band they work on together is Hacienda Tortuga and their first album, Saint Augustine Nights, is due to be released in April 2011.[edit] References
