Amateur career
Dmitry used to be a chess player and wasn’t getting enough activity, so he decided to start boxing. He had over 230 amateur fights, winning several Russian National Amateur Championships.[2]
Professional career
The undefeated Pirog was relatively unknown going into the bout with Jacobs, with his biggest win prior to the bout being over former contender Kofi Jantuah.
WBO Middleweight title
On July 31, 2010 Pirog fought Middleweight contender, Daniel Jacobs for the vacant WBO Middleweight Championship.[3][4] Pirog shockingly upset Jacobs via knockout with a hard right hand in the 5th round to win the title, on the Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Juan Diaz II undercard.[5]

Pirog is a graduate of Kuban State University and holds a Managerial boxing license. Some of the boxers he manages are undefeated prospects Fedor Papazov and Light Heavyweight Vasily Lepikhin.[6]
He currently has girlfriend - Eugenia.
