Divali Complex/El Socorro Lambert

The Divali Complex or the El Socorro Lambert is a town located in Trinidad and Tobago. The Divali Complex or the El Socorro Lambert was created by the British Empire in 1932,to create a land for the Indian slaves who were moved from India to Trinidad and Tobago.

It is split into four county areas, which are: -Dukana Ketra (shopping area) Hindi; दुकान क्षेत्र -Ghara ketra (Residential area) Hindi; घर क्षेत्र -Kēndrīya śahara (Central County) Hindi; केंद्रीय शहर -Hindū jaṭila (area of religion)Hindi; हिन्दू जटिल

The Town consists of 108 sectors or blocks which are located within each of the 4 areas with 27 in each county area. Within Hindu Jatila there are 3 Mandirs (Hindu Temples). The town is one of the most culturaly richest towns in the world, mixing British, West Indian, Indian, Hindu, Sikh, Christian and even Mayan cultures and religions into one town, where crime here is the lowest than anywhere in the world and has won numerous awards for the most 'Peaceful Urban District' Awards by the U.N and other Organizations.

Dukana Ketra (shopping area)

The shopping area sells many Indian goods, mainly clothing and foods. Saris, Salwar kameez, Sherwani's and many other types of male and female clothing are located here. In 19 of the 27 sectors there are spice farms, which are fields dominated with spices. This means people can hand pick fresh spices for a small price. There are two flower and plant sectors also located in this area. These are fields and grass patches which consist of different Plants, trees and fruits. People can then buy fresh fruits and plants. In one of the plant sectors is the 'Trinidad and Tobago Divali National Plant House', in which all grown products are checked for approval for sale, as well as marketing etc.

Seshwani Clekzan Mall

On January 22nd 1995,a Mall opened in Dukana Ketra, costing $1.5 Million with stores such as Guess, Calvin Klein, Debenhams, Zara, Rolex, Hugo Boss, Pottery Barn, Macys, John Lewis, and local designers such as Madrugada. There is also a food court, called Menti Plaza. In the Plaza there are many Diners such as Mcdonalds, KFC, Sbarro, Edo Japon and many more. It attracts more than 600,000 shoppers every year. At Christmas and especialy Diwali there are always new shops that open to celebrate the festivals around a month before the Date of the Festival or Celebration. For example for Diwali 2009 a store called Jai Hind, opened celebrating the culture of India and Indian Religions as well as the celebration of the national country itself Trinidad and Tobago.

Ghara ketra (Residential area)

The residential area consists of over 150,000 houses and apartments. Each sector has a different style of buildings which make the houses. In around 7 of the sectors/ blocks the buildings resemble different styles of Indian Buildings. The houses all have been given sashiwa, which is where the front of there house has a Silver or Metal Symbol declaring there Religion. Almost every house is expensive and luxurious, worth well over $200,000.

Kēndrīya śahara (Central County)

The Central County area is a mixture of all different kinds of businesses and buildings. It has many restaurants, markets, business companies, apartments, stores (other than Indian products) and many other kinds. It has two micro medic centres and two huge hospitals as well as the Divali Complex Police Department HQ Academy. It is busy 24/7 and has one of the most busiest business buildings in North America. More than 80% of young people work here, The working age for retailers begins at 15+.

Hindū jaṭila(area of religion)

Sanātana Dharma was a term used for 'Hinduism' in sanskrit and is the name of the capital block/sector in Hindū jaṭila.

In the Hindū jaṭila Area there are many shops selling statues, murtis and images of Hindu gods. There are many Hindu schools which are for ages 3-18. There are almost 18 Hindu Schools out of the 27 sectors in The Area. Hindu Schools are schools which specialises in teaching its students about Trinidad and Tobago, India, Hinduism, Sikhism and Christianity.

Mandirs are not the only place of worship as the Micro Hindu Area has a Religious Centre which caters for any religion but there are mainly three religions in the town: Hinduism, Sikhism and Christianity. The Area also has a gurdwara and 2 churches.

Religion

The Religion in the town consists of Hinduism.50% of the population are Trinidad and Tobago Natives who have converted to Hinduism. 80% of the towns population is Hindu. There is also a range of many other religious, however they are minorites, these are of Sikhs, Jews, Jains and Christians.Religion plays a big part in daily life in the Divali Complex. For example there are no beef farms in the entire town, and only one restaurant has been reported to serving beef, and only one store sells any form of beef meats, however milk, cheese etc is considered acceptable and is sold in almost every store. Also by law, every sector/ block sells kosher meat for the Jewish people, and every restaurant/café must have 5+ vegetarian starters, 15+ main dishes and 5+ desert options.

Population

The Divali Complex has a massive population of 180, 017. Almost 30% of the population are Indian Immigrants or Indians who have become Trinidad and Tobago Official Citizens. However people from all over the world have settled here for its amazing lifestyle. This is a content of the population throughout the years:

Geography

The Divali Complex is located in two cities Saint George and Saint Joseph. The Divali Complex was built so half of it was in Saint George and the other half was in Saint Joseph. This was an accident due to lack of building space although later it was built on both cities. It is called a town but is more of a Micro City within two cities. Each Area has a 'Capital Sector', It is usually the home to the most people.
