It can be distinguished from the achkan by the fact that it is often made from heavier suiting fabrics, and by the presence of a lining.History

British India in 18th century, as a fusion of theShalwar Kameez with the Britishfrock coat . It was gradually adopted by most of theIndian aristocracy , mostly Muslim, and later by the general population, as a more westernized form of traditional attire.It is the
national dress ofPakistan for men, as it is not specifically associated with any of the provinces. InIndia , it is generally worn for formal occasions in winter by those ofNorth Indian descent, especially those fromUttar Pradesh and Hyderabadi muslims. Fit
This Sherwani coat fits close to the body, fastened in the front with buttons, and extends to slightly below knee-length.
