The ancestors of Rebbapragada Girish Kumar 'the ex DGP of Andhrapradesh, and Cricketer VVS Laxman's mother and his uncle and coach 'Rebbapragada Babumohan' hail from Dharmavaram.
Rebbapragada Ramakrishnarao garu was the karanam of the village during the final years of British India. He was known for his honesty, integrity and hardwork.
Dr Rebbapragada Radhakrishna Moorthy, who has passed away a few years ago, did a great service to the village for well over 50years as a physician, Surgeon and Obstetrician. He brought great name to this village as one of the health care centres of the area.
The children and grand children of Dr Radhakrishna Moorthy have now moved abroad and are living in US and Europe, while his wife continues to live in the village leading a retired life.
Other children of Rebbapragada Ramakrishnarao have moved to various places, while the doctor son 'Rebbapragada Radhakrishna Moorthy' stayed and served the village and surroundings.
Mr Rebbapragada Venkateshwar Rao and Mr Rebbapragada Gangaraju are in the teaching profession and are now retired.
The Rebbapragada Ramakrishnarao 'karanam' garu's family has produced teachers, doctors, engineers, chartered accountant, lawyers and Gayatri Upasakas.
Rebbapragada's consider this village as the place of their origin.
There are three families of Rebbapragadas still living in the village.

It has its own dedicated village panchayat office, one district secondary school and one village library. Also there are a dedicated co-operative society which is handy for farmers to get any fertilizers for the crops and a Primary Health Centre which reaches out to people to render its services in grave times. The majority of the population lives on agriculture due to availability of good water resources.
In the era of Digital divide between urban and rural areas, this village can be seen as positive role model, where there is less demarcation between these two communities. Almost every road in this village is a well laid cement road and the pervasiveness of this development can be seen even through the remotest location of this village.
Transportation
Dharmavaram is geographically located on State highway of Marteru-Tallpudi, which stretches around fifty miles in length. Due to its well-connectedness, the transportation facility to this village is very good. To reach this village through train, one can dropdown either at Nidadavole or Kovvur or Rajahmundry. The nearest railway station to Dharmavaram is Kovvur, which is 10 kilometers from Dharmavaram. The village is accessible only by road from either of these towns - government run Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) buses available for every fifteen minutes from any of these towns. The nearest airport is in Madurapudi in the outskirts of Rajahmundry.
