Marteru is a village in Penumantra Mandal, West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh, India. The village is famous for the rice research center, established by the Government of India to conduct research on paddy crops. The center developed many new varieties of rice seeds.

A festival called Venkateswara Swami kalyanam is celebrated in Marteru village. It is a celebration among neighbouring villages. This festival is celebrated on the second day after Srirama Navami which usually comes in the month of March or April.

There are many places to be visited near around marteru. A small town called Penugonda is located 2K.M near to marteru, which is the birth place of Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari who is the god for Vysyas. Palakollu is a town is 12 km far from marteru, which is one of the Pancha aramas(Ksheeraaramam), and the God is Ksheera Ramalingeswara Swamy. This is the place of birth to many cinema acotrs and directors like Allu Ramalingiah, Chalam, Haranath, Dasari Narayana Rao, Kodi Ramakrishna etc. There is Godavari river bay in 10 km. It is very beautiful location, small islands called lankas situated in Godavari where we can found the trees like coconut, mango etc. We can go there by small yatches and boats.

Subbana reddy was an international basketball player and Satti geetha reddy is also an international runner in athletics,they brought a good name to Marter. and the great SVGhighschool had a good name in our district, this school is well in both studies and games also. All the best basketball players were studied in this school.the Ayyappa swami temple is also a famous temple in Marter.
