She represents the electoral district of Chester-St. Margaret's as a member of the New Democratic Party.
She was named Minister of Community Services on June 19, 2009, she is also the Minister for Seniors, the Chair of the Senior Citizens’ Secretariat, the Minister responsible for the Advisory Council on the Status of Women Act and the Minister responsible for the Disabled Persons’ Commission Act.
