The Philippine Pygmy Woodpecker (Dendrocopos maculatus), also known as the Philippine Woodpecker, is a species of bird in the woodpecker family (Picidae). Its local name in Kapampangan is Anluage.

Taxonomy

Formerly the taxon included the Sulu Woodpecker (D. ramsayi), which is now treated as distinct. These two and the Sulawesi Woodpecker (D. temminckii) appear to form a superspecies. It marks the southeastern extent of the large D. moluccensis group, the major radiation of Dendrocopos in eastern Asia.

Distribution and habitat

The woodpecker is endemic to the Philippines. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.
