Dejuan Turrentine, is an American recording artist, songwriter and producer. A California native and the nephew of the great jazz saxophonists Stanley Turrentine, Dejuan has been around music his entire life.

Life and career

Early life

Dejuan Turrentine was born in Pasadena, California. At a young age, Dejuan was already exposed to classic rock, hip hop, funk and rhythm and blues.

Music career

Early career

At age 8, he began pursuing a career in music by forming a four member R&B group called Melodic. He attended various acting schools, landing himself national commercial leads for top companies including Sprite and Reebok.[1] With his leading man looks, he also held dominant roles in the Milos Forman and Norman Lear feature film, Way Past Cool and starred in the Leslie Small film, A Good Man is Hard to Find.[2]

Career beginnings

Dejuan was signed to JYP Entertainment from 2000–2003, before being signed with Wyclef's independent record label Carnival House Records in 2009 for 8 months.[3] Dejuan released his mixtape Pop Funk Vol.1 under Blaque Roze in 2010 and explained that the title refers to his ability to create a new genre of original music with a familiar sound. “It’s creative pop and funky” he says[4]". Dejuan received heavy buzz upon his music video release of Bad Habit, co-starring Reagan Gomez and Jackie Long.[5] Dejuan cites musicians Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Bootsy Collins, Rick James and James Brown amongst others as his influences. In addition to singing, Dejuan is a classically trained pianist and also plays the guitar. He incorporates R&B, funk, rock, pop and electronica into his music.
