It was founded in 1993 by former Principal, Hazrat Qari Yakub Nanji and Haji Yousef Bhailok, who is currently the head trustee. The Darul Uloom was originally started at Makki Mosque, Eskrick Street, Bolton where the Dars-e-Nizami was taught until the first class who would later graduate had reached Arbi Dawm (Islamic Theology Year 2) then they had transferred the students over to the Darul Uloom. And since then the Darul Uloom has been running and has been taught at the Darul Uloom itself. The Darul Uloom was originally based at a former Blair Hospital in Bromley Cross, Bolton, which also had a mass of land behind the actual building. In 2006, the council bought the land from the institute to build a new area of houses, so they relocated to a more lively and busy area of Deane, Bolton where it would be easier, and has been there ever since.

School
The Darul Uloom provides school students from the ages of 11-16 teaching at a high standard which enables them to sit GCSEs in Years 10 & 11, the School Department hope to raise the bar higher so students can start taking GCSEs from Year 9. The school offers many subjects to choose from such as the core subjects (Maths, English, Science - upto triple award), History, Religious Studies, Information Communication Technology, Geography etc.
It is our wish that after graduating as Hafiz/Alims, some boys will carry on to become doctors, engineers, theologians, and other ‘respected’ professions. Tests and exams are now regularly taken to assess the progress of the boys, at all levels. The Institute continues to improve attainments at all levels, KS3 and GCSE’s. The boys are keen to attain high levels of grades to further their studies. Overall, the School’s curriculum is challenging and demanding, designed to instil a love of learning, good study habits and the ability to think critically.Sixth Form
The School Department also provides the students with A-Level courses and BTEC whilst in conjunction with Bolton College. The students can choose from a wide range of subjects and have the many facilities to carry out experiments and practical tests.
